About Mayo Hospital

Initially founded in 1871, Mayo Hospital in Lahore originally began as a teaching hospital in collaboration with King Edward Medical College. As the years passed, it grew into one of Lahore’s busiest hospitals, with a daily footfall averaging at about 15,000 visitors. Standing proudly in the heart of Old Lahore today, it continues to provide treatment free-of-cost to almost all patients, in line with government policy.

However as people grew, it was not able to keep up with the rising demand and became victim to disrepair and negligence. The structure in some places became dilapidated and they were unable to continue serving patients to the best of their ability. The Mayo Hospital required a supportive force to keep it going and improve conditions, and this is where Friends of Mayo Hospital stepped in.

Friends of Mayo Hospital

Friends of Mayo Hospital (FOMH) began in 2017 in order to help improve the quality of services offered at the Mayo Hospital, and make sure that visitors had their various needs met in an efficient manner. They saw the difficulties borne by people waiting in line for the largest hospital in Punjab. An institution with a rich history that had served countless people over decades was falling apart, in some cases quite literally as building structures seemed close to crumbling. After witnessing all of this, the founding members knew they could not sit by idly and had to do whatever was in their power to make things better.

They worked on both repairing and renovating old wards that had not been maintained properly as well as constructing new buildings to serve patients, attendants and other visitors. Apart from ju8st helping patients directly, their work also contributed towards raising the morale of doctors and other medical staff within the hospital, making them all the more motivated to providing the best service possible.

FOMH aims to ensure that those who come to the Mayo Hospital are looked after to the best of their ability, and made comfortable and healthy in times of distress.
