Human Empowerment and Welfare Trust (HEWT) is an organization that began in 2012 in Karachi with the motive to eliminate poverty, one family at a time.
HEWT provides small interest free loans to poor people to help them access capital which combined with their entrepreneurship skills translates into higher incomes and improved livelihoods.
These small loans are primarily given to women. HEWT believes working women can elevate their families out of poverty as they use the extra income on children’s education, improved diet and healthcare. This way the lifestyle of the whole family is improved.
HEWT also helps poor women prepare for running a small business. By supporting the women with skills training and mentoring, HEWT helps the women to launch and grow the small businesses.
