The Karim Khan Afridi Welfare Foundation (KKAWF) is a dedicated non-profit organization registered under the Government of Pakistan’s Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance 1961 with the registration number VSWA/ICT/696. It is also registered with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) with National Tax Number 7222148-8 and holds memberships with the Vienna NGO Committee on Drugs (VNGOC) and Dianova. Additionally, the foundation is certified by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy (PCP) and registered with The Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) Number 645760203, NCAGE, and SAM.gov.

Primarily focused on drug awareness and prevention among teenagers in Pakistan, KKAWF serves as a crucial platform for the exchange of ideas and engagement at various levels to formulate effective policies on drug awareness and substance abuse. The foundation’s mission is to disseminate knowledge on the adverse effects of drug use on individuals, families, and society. It aims to break the taboos surrounding drug use and encourage people to seek help. Acting as a catalyst, KKAWF engages with both federal and provincial governments to influence policy making related to drug production, prevention, and usage.

The foundation is deeply committed to spreading knowledge on drug use prevention, equipping parents, teachers, and families with the tools to recognize early signs and symptoms of drug use at home, in schools, and among friends. By collaborating with various partners, KKAWF aims to foster a supportive community that not only provides protection but also reduces the risk of drug addiction.

KKAWF also focuses on creating awareness among non-addicts to manage emotions effectively and to intervene in order to prevent potential tragedies. With Pakistan’s population being predominantly young — 63% under the age of 30 — the foundation addresses the critical need for guidance during this exploratory phase of life. The AntiNarcotics Force’s 2015 report highlights that approximately 8.9 million people in Pakistan use drugs which underscores the urgency of KKAWF’s mission.

Recognizing the multifaceted nature of adolescence, KKAWF has developed a comprehensive model encompassing five main spheres of interest: Drug Awareness, Environment, Sports, Arts & Culture, and Civic Sense. This model is implemented through various outreach activities in schools, colleges, and universities. The foundation engages young people in drug prevention activities, sports, environmental protection initiatives, and arts and cultural events, fostering a sense of civic responsibility.

KKAWF also tackles drug use in educational institutes through its intensive teacher training program, ‘Unplugged – Hum Saath Hain,’ which educates teachers on creating awareness among youth. The foundation conducts talks on drug abuse and its consequences in middle and high schools, providing tools for pre-emptive measures and empowering youth to make informed choices against drug use.
