National Epilepsy Centre is the flagship project of Neurology Research and Patient Welfare Fund (NRPWF), a registered NGO under the Voluntary Social Welfare Agencies (Registration and Control) Ordinance 1961. Contributions are tax exempted under sub-clause (c) of the clause (36) of section 2 of the income tax ordinance 2001 read with rules 212 and 220 of the income tax rule 2002. FBR-National Tax Number (NTN) is 1533406-6.

NEC is located on the premises of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Karachi under a signed MOU between the NGO and JPMC as a public private Project. The entire project is financed by the NGO with JPMC providing electricity & water only. All our work to date has been possible through individual and some corporate donations. No governmental or foreign funding agencies have been approached.

NEC’s goals are to provide holistic management of epilepsy to the all affected, especially those with poor resources, create public awareness about the treatability of this highly stigmatized disorder, fight stigma associated with it by changing the nation’s is mind-set. It also works towards enhancing epilepsy education amongst professionals and epilepsy research. Presently it has embarked upon completion of the project to provide enhanced diagnostics and management facilities which in future will be the road towards surgical management of epilepsy.

17000 patients per annum are managed holistically and provided medicines. They come from far flung areas of Pakistan like Gilgit and border villages of Siachen. A token cost of Rs. 250/- is levied from every patient only to add value to the services provided. It includes specialist consultation and 30 days medicines. This amount is equivalent to ~5% of the total cost.
